New York for Summer

Next summer (July 2011), my church is going to go on a missions trip. This summer we went on one to down town Denver (I didn't make this one, swim team got in the way) and apparently the group had so much fun they wanted to do a cross-country one next summer! I'm so excited for it! We are going to (drum roll please), New York! I've never been but have been planning a trip ever since I decided I want to go to F.I.T. for college and become a name everyone knows in fashion. I see pictures of fashion week and blogs from trips there and it just makes me lust to go there even more each time. The trip hasn't even been announced yet (the leader Robbin hinted to me, then later guaranteed we will be going to the Big Apple) and I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to wait. I've already gotten an old stack of Lucky magazines and have been compiling a list of all the best boutiques around the city.  I've been talking about it at school and my friends are telling me that it's next summer so I really shouldn't start all the planning now, but it's so hard not to! If I plan on being a big name in the fashion industry when I grow older, I need to get a move on. I love reading street style blogs and seeing all the crazy-yet-artfully-amazing concoctions that people mix up in their closets, its just wonderful to be able to stand completely still in a big city and know that there is such hustle and bustle and so many things going on, and absolutely none of them concern you. I love that feeling, I feel so relaxed in that. I need the business around me and honestly, fashion is my one real connection to that hustle and bustle.  I know we are going here on a missions trip and it's to help the less fortunate and bring people to Christ and give them the resources to become a Christian, but Robbin, the leader that told me before she was meant to, said that maybe her and I could stay a couple days after the missions trip to do some shopping, even if that doesn't work out I'll find time to shop and look around. If you have any suggestions of what I should do, where to shop, or what I should eat while I'm there, I would love the input.  I absolutely can't wait to get wrapped up in every thing that New York is known for.  I'm already daydreaming of seeing the Brooklyn Bridge, lounging by Central Park and strolling through Time Square, all armed with my camera and note book. Other places I'm planning of stopping by include Topshop, Kate Spade, an this store Zoe that I found in Lucky. A trip to Soho for a day of shopping and gazing at all he lovely things available is an absolute must, I think that may be at the top of my list. Any way, I just wanted to share my summer plans for you (I know, I know, its almost fall and I am ready for the change in seasons too, but its hard not to look forward to New York!!!) so anyway, hope you are enjoying fall, even though it could still be summer based on the weather.

California Amazingness!

I know this post is way, way, way overdue, but we have finally gotten iPhoto on our Mac and now I can successfully upload pictures. I know I promise pictures, and they never come, but now I can fulfill my promises! Now I have a ton of picture from California, and that will be all for today. I couldn't find a (presentable) picture of me with my hot pink lipstick that I was going to buy. I was on my way to the checkout line, and then I saw the price tag. I may just have to get it at the drug store. Sigh. Delanie and I had such a good time, you couldn't imagine the plain ride for me. The whole time I was tapping my foot ready for the plane to land. That was the only part of the trip I didn't absolutely love, but it was well worth it. Here are just a couple of the pictures I took, I couldn't put them all on since I took over 800 pictures. Oh well.
Kate Spade, that store is so amazing, and bonus points for the people working there liking my shoes!
Jelly Belly Factory, so much fun, except for the hats they made us wear
Two nice ladies that let me take their pictures. I liked their outfits, and the first person's shoes were so cute, I think she was the person that started my wanting of ankle boots
At an A's baseball game. It was fun but really really cold
The outside of the amazing three story Forever 21, I was in heaven!
A picture taken from looking down to the bottom of the San Fransisco mall, it was eight stories of  shopping fun
After I got off the plane we got ice cream! My favorite flavor  at the time was (is?) strawberry cheesecake, so good after a long flight!

Me in an awesome chair at Pier 1 Imports, Delanie and I went shopping there and could've spent hours touching and feeling all the pretty items. I can't wait to be able to decorate my own house!

The same shopping day as Pier 1, we tried prom dresses on at JCPennies and this was my favorite, I loved the black watercolor print on the skirt

Basically what the bathroom counter looked like after a couple of days there, I guess that's what you have to expect coming form three (me, Delanie and Brena, Delanie's big sister) teenage girls

My gorgeous friend Delanie after I got to do her hair and make-up. We went to In&Out burger for lunch, that's definitely something I miss from living in California

Delanie and Troy playing Mario Kat on the wheel, I tried to play it, but was unsuccessful, they kept yelling at me what to do! It just ended in a bunch of laughs and me giving up my wheel

And finally Bart, I love trains so much, I can't wait to take the Subway in New York when I eventually live there!

Fashion Magazines

I always love learning what people in the fashion world read for magazines. I'm not really in "the fashion world" yet, but I do enjoy reading fashion magazines.  I'm currently subscribing to Lucky, Teen Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar.  British Vogue is one of my favorites too, but i really can't afford to buy the latest issue each month and a subscription is out of question. I love reading Lucky for all the shopping, I think that's my more practical magazine out out of the three. They have very fashionable items though and These are the things I can really picture myself wearing, for some unknown reason i just can't picture myself in the clothes of the outrageous fashion spreads in Harper's Bazaar, or even Teen Vogue for that matter.  I still love Harper's Bazaar though and right now I'm trying to decide what my target audience will b when I have my own store. If I want to build it up to be a luxury brand or if i want to make it more practical for the every day fashionable woman.  So, in that note I subscribe to both! Teen Vogue is more for my age and throws in the trends that work for me, I love it because it isn't the typical teenager magazine (not nearly as much gossip, which is great, i'll pick up Us or people if I want celebrity gossip thank you very much) and I do need to keep my clothes in check for my age, they are all a great balance for me in retrospect. So, what are your favorite magazines?

September, Finally

I've been waiting for fall to come for a while now and in August, even as school is starting, I feel bad for wanting to bring out jackets and boots.  I feel as though I need to relish in the last few days of summer because i know I will be missing them when I'm walking through snow and slush.  So now that it's September, I feel as if I can finally act upon fall. Today my mom and I went shopping and I got a very stylish military jacket. I love it, and I'm wearing it right now, even though it's in the 70s outside. Its olive green and is double breasted and has the round gold buttons on the front. It's a very literal translation of an old military jacket, but the fabric, which is soft and stretchy, makes it a bit more laid back. Military is obviously here to stay, so I didn't feel bad buying it. Plus, I really really needed a new jacket, and the price tag helped a bit with the persuasion, too (the jacket was only $20.00 at Nordstrom Rack). I have a couple other fall trends that I've been waiting to bring into my closet, and this seems like the perfect time to do it. Sequins, military green, and ankle boots are just a few of my favorite trends lately.  Here are just a few samples of what I will be buying soon.
